GASPL 2008 Playoff Format
After reviewing player feedback from last season, and with the expansion of each division to 10 teams, this year’s playoff format has changed.
At the end of regular season play, teams from each division (Men’s & Co-ed) will be "seeded" into 2 divisions based on their final regular season points standings.
Division A: Teams finishing 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th
Division B: Teams finishing 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th
NOTE: Tie-breakers will be determined in the following manner for determining division placement:
1) Total number of wins.
2) Head-to-head record of the two tied teams. (If it happens to be the 1st & 2nd place teams that are still tied, they will be declared co-winners of the
regular season).
3) Final tie breaker to determine seeding is a coin toss.
Round One (Round Robin)
Each team will play a round robin against the other teams in that division. (Example: The team finishing 2nd will play one game each against the 4th, 6th, 8th and 10th place teams.). Each team will be Home Team for 2 games and Visitors for 2 games.
The top 2 teams from each division will advance to Round Two.
The top 2 teams from Round One are determined by:
1) Firstly, number of wins.
2) In the event that more than 2 teams having the same # of wins, or in the event of a clear first place finish and 2 or more teams tied for second place, the
head-to-head record of the teams involved will determine who advances. (Example: Teams A, B and C each have 2 wins. Team A beat both B and C, so
A advances. Team C beat Team B so Team C advances).
3) If there is still a tie, the team with the greatest # of runs for will advance.
4) If there is still a tie, the team with the least # of runs against will advance.
NOTE: In rounds 1 and 2, a win is worth 2 pts, a tie is 1 pt, and a loss is 0 pts. All games must have the home team complete the last inning, as runs for and runs against count in the event of a tie.
Round Two
Each team in Round Two will play a round robin against the 3 other teams in Round Two. Each team will be Home Team for 2 games and Visitors for 2 games.
The top 2 teams from Round Two will advance to the Championship Round.
The top 2 teams are determined by the same criteria as in Round One.
Championship Round
The final 2 teams will play a best-of-three series with the team winning 2 games being declared the league playoff champion. Each team will be Home Team once, and if a 3rd game is necessary, Home will be determined by a coin toss.
